Ebbw Fawr Wellbeing Centre pupils would like the chance to help the environment and become more sufficient and independent as learners and young adults. The Wellbeing Centre provides support for pupils with emotional, social and behavioural issues. The allotment and garden area that pupils would like to create will also benefit the school as a whole, as it will offer pupils the chance to explore different skills and participate in different courses that are available such as ASDAN, Eco-Schools and Forest Schools. It will give young pupils the chance to develop their social skills, which are needed in day to day life such as communication, working independently, life skills, Integrating pupils with special needs and team work. It will also help the pupils deal with behavioural and social issues as they will feel that they have achieved something by working together. The pupils will need to work together to plan out the area and the types of plants and vegetables that they would like to grow from scratch. Pupils will need a knowledge of gardening, science and maths in order to plan the allotment and garden to make the best possible use of the facilities and the space available - This will help them in other subjects too such as numeracy and literacy. Pupils would like the opportunity to help out in the wider community by growing their own produce and donate and sell this produce to local charities to raise funds to replenish stock. They would also like to become more involved in local community challenges such as the 'In Bloom' challenge. These secondary pupils would like to be able to advise and teach pupils in the foundation phase of our 3-16 school to adopt the skills that they have learnt and peer train those younger.
