Making environmental change happen

Your views needed by Wandsworth BC (18th November deadline)

The world is moving increasingly towards grass roots activity, what people think, local community groups and ad hoc projects that address neighbourhood issues. Who would know better about a problem (and the solution) than the residents on site? This is the view taken by Wandsworth BC – and rightly so in our eyes.

The Town Hall is calling on residents to get involved in a new consultation to help Wandsworth draw up its next green policies. It is fully aware, by all accounts, that it needs to reduce its carbon emissions, tackle climate change and become more eco-friendly. The buzz areas are as follows:

- Reduce household waste
- Reduce CO2 produced from council buildings
- Help 200 local businesses improve their environmental performance
- Improve resilience to flooding

So now is your time to look closely at the DRAFT policy, check out what it says, support/question its conclusions – and offer your own solutions too. The more consultation the better in these things, so do get involved.

Don’t hold back on this type of thing. It’s your chance to get fully involved in policy that could have consequences in your back yard. As an individual – I’m going to have a good look and see what parts I agree/disagree with … and make some suggestions. I believe it’s one of the most powerful activities I can get involved in (shaping local policy) and I’m chuffed that we live in a society where our views as residents are increasingly carrying more and more sway.

So – if you want to view the new environmental policy follow this link or e-mail or email envpolicy@wandsworth.gov.uk. To request a copy, telephone (020) 8871 6182. BUT hurry – the consultation ends 18th November … so you need to be quick.
