Help needed with a Southwark-based research project on ethnic diversity and volunteering within environmental community initiatives

Annalisa Dorigo, an MSc student from LSE, is doing a research project on ethnic diversity and would appreciate your help. Her message is posted below:

This is a call out to all Southwark residents currently volunteering within green community initiatives in the borough.

I am a MSc student carrying out my final research project on ethnic diversity and volunteering within environmental community initiatives in Southwark.

My research seeks to identify:

1) How ethnic minorities are represented w… Continue

Elephant and Castle, Unregenerated

The Elephant and Castle Regeneration has come to a standstill, partly because of no money, and possibly because of some seriously bad planning.

Elephant and Castle is very much a focal point in Southwark, and I believe that whatever happens with it, will affect everyone in Southwark, from Camberwell to Bermondsey. A growing group of local communities and businesses got together to ask the council to do open masterplanning, ensure that the area benefits all and that the housing is really afforda… Continue

In Which I do Things Backwards

and explain what People's Republic of Southwark is all about.

In too many areas of our lives, there's an inexplicable amount of tribalism, in which our tribe was better/more interesting/more important/more everything than your one, very much like 'people's front of Judea or people's Judean front'. This never made much sense to me, especially not when it comes to the planet, which, whether we like it or not, belongs to all of us, and to which we all equally matter.

Initally, my partner and I se… Continue

Thanks for your support in the Free Solar bid. We had over 550 people send emails and post comments.

Despite the clear public interest in our proposal, our bid was unfortunately not successful and we will not be able to offer free solar panels under this project. We didn't win this one but Lambeth Superhomes continues to look for ways to work with communities to deliver financed ‘whole house’ eco-renovation delivered by trained local tradespeople.

I will post future initiatives on my blog.

All the best

Hi Lili,

Hope all is going well?

A quick message - to let you know you can now access funding directly through project dirt. As of today ... Timberland, the US boot guys - are making available £500 to 4 projects on the site. I just wanted to flag this with you in case you needed funds to help your project (Peoples Rep of Southwark).

Take a look at their project page http://www.projectdirt.com/group/timberlandEK to see how to apply.

I'm here if you need a hand with anything.

cheers

Mark

Hi ,
I’m volunteering Project Dirt at the moment and wanted to chase people up on the Administrator’s Meeting on 10th March which is going to be really integral to the future of PD and a chance for everyone to meet. If you could let Nick, Mark or I know if you can make it that would be great. Click here to reply. Hopefully see you there!
Best wishes,
Jess
