Hi Duncan
Hope you're well... just a quick note to point you in the direction of the new Timberland EK fund if you haven't seen it already! Hope you or some of your groups may be able to apply this year? Check out the front page blog, or the project page here
Best wishes, Nick

On Saturday 31st October, the Mayor of Lambeth took part in a B£ shopping spree, that started off at Morleys of Brixton department store where the Mayor got himself some B£s.

Next on the list was A&C Continental, Portuguese deli on Atlantic Road, from which the Mayor emerged with a bag of goodies, including herbs and onions for his dinner. From there the Mayoral convoy, made up of a number of B£ supporters and onlookers, moved to the Arcades market for a stop at Wa Zo Bia, African food store, to buy some chilies, and then across to Secondo, vintage clothes outlet, where the Mayor picked up a very cool jersey.

From there, and with many hello-stops at regular intervals, the Mayor reached Nubian Natural Body Care, on Atlantic Road, where B£s came handy in the purchase of some scrumptious salt crystals. Next it was Diverse Gifts, on Atlantic Road, and finally over to Stuart the Watchmaker, on Pope Road, before the Mayor said good bye to the team and headed off to his next engagement. No doubt those bath salts would have come handy that evening.

The shopping spree was a fantastic success in promoting participating businesses and the B£, with passers-by and shoppers out and about in Brixton.

Hi Duncan, I'm sorry - I just saw your message. It's not too late for HH people to join the eco team, they just need to start measuring asap. Please have them send me an email at nhhcan@googlemail.com.
It would be fantastic to have people to do Q&A after the film screening!
And would be great to have TTB HH residents info, thanks.
all the best,
Therese

Hello Duncan

There is a Planning Application by Tesco's Agents for a prime site in our area. Any suggestions who best to talk to about a considered approach to opposing this.
best regards

Ann

Hi Duncan,
Thanks for getting back to me so swiftly. As it happens, we have a very well organised central group - the problem has been expanding it!

TTW had a very successful meeting yesterday. It looks like our first public meeting should be in September. I'll keep you updated, of course.

I'm very interested in air quality - I just wrote a five-page feature on it! There is some concern at the moment that biomass plants (as in wood chips) will worsen air quality, but the government's renewable energy strategy, released last week, encourages them to be sited away from built-up areas and replace existing oil or solid-fuel boilers, so expansion of biomass use can work without knackering the air we breathe. The same, I imagine, applies to biofuel plants, but I know a lot less about this.

Local government body LACORS is seeking a ban on virgin biofuels, by the way:
http://www.lacors.gov.uk/lacors/NewsArticleDetails.aspx?N=0&Ne=0+2000+3000+4000+5000+6000+7000+8000+9000+10000+11000&id=22027

So, my questions about this would be:
a) how are the council intending to assess the air quality impacts of the proposed installation?
b) Is it in an air quality management area? [edit: it is, for NO2 and PM10]
c) will they have regard to recent, DEFRA-endorsed but non-statutory guidance from Environmental Protection UK / LACORS on biomass and air quality?
d) is the proposed installation compatible with the renewable energy strategy, with a view to its location?

So, yes, please put me in touch with Richard Harkinson. Thanks!

Hello Duncan,
Gareth from the slowly-evolving Transition Town Wimbledon here. I've just set up our on Project Dirt page: http://www.projectdirt.com/group/transitiontownwimbledon

Sorry to disappoint you a while ago regarding the talk you were intending to give.

I think it would be useful for TTW to sit in on a few meetings of TTB, so we can draw some much needed inspiration. Would that be OK?

Cheers,
Gareth Simkins
