Where Do I Start?
New to Project Dirt? We’re a networking site for environmental
projects. Perhaps best described as a community of green projects.
Have a look around the site for starters. Go to our
projects. Feel free to
scroll through them, to see the projects already on board. Check
out our
events page
and
trial
map to check out what’s going on down the road from you.
If you like what you see, sign up and join our community. You’ll
find like-minded people, can share your green knowledge around and
also get involved with projects in your local area. We’re keen
Project Dirt helps people to actually meet, get together, start
initiatives and share ideas. Instead of another web based
discussion forum we like to see ideas being put into action.
Signing Up
Although this is easy peesy, To get started please:
1) Click on the “sign in” tab in the top right.
2) Upload a photo (we love photos).
3) Tick your areas of interest.
4) Write some blurb about yourself in the Experience/Skills section
(NB - no word limit, so lots here please).
Personalise your Profile Page
Do this by heading to ‘settings’ at the top right of your profile
page. You are then redirected to your account page and click on the
tabs to the left to edit the appearance and privacy settings. You
can add images to your page layout or use the template colours
available.
Joining Projects
Once you have your profile page up and running, it’s time to get to
grips with Project Dirt properly and get involved with the
projects. PLEASE think carefully before signing up with projects.
Most projects have tight knit communities and whilst they’re hugely
welcoming, be prepared to get actively involved; go to their
meetings, events and get stuck in.
If you’re sharp as a whistle, you’ll note some projects have been
set up as private projects. Fear not if this is the case, you have
the option to email the project administrator to ask for more
information.
Setting up a Project Page
This is pretty straight forward, BUT there are a couple of things
to note. We’ll cover them here
1) Click on the projects tab.
2) Click ‘add a project’ at the top right of the page.
3) Give your project a name.
4) Download a picture.
5) Write a short description of it (NB - maximum of 250
characters)!
6) We’d recommend leaving the first three boxes under ‘features’
ticked.
7) Feel free to tick the RSS feed option to help link to your own
website.
8) Privacy – important you know you CANNOT CHANGE this setting once
the project has been created!
Unless you’re adamant, we'd love you to keep your project 'Open'
for others to see and join. It’s the ethos of the site - allowing
others to learn from your experiences! Some projects are closed due
to joining fees etc.
Filling in your Projects Page
Once your project has been created, the bulk of information goes in
the text box – which has unlimited space. You can also add pictures
videos and whatever you feel best illustrates what your project is
about. Remember: just because you’ve started one up doesn’t mean
you can’t join others!
