NEW EVENT: Climate Change in London: What's to be done?:

http://www.projectdirt.com/events/climate-change-in-london

On Thursday, 25 February, the Putney Society and Wandsworth Friends of the Earth have organised a public meeting for members and the general public at St. Mary's Church, Putney Bridge. Please come.

Speakers:

Tony Bosworth, national climate change campaigner at Friends of the Earth, on the big picture in the wake of the Copenhagen Conference fiasco last December: What is Government doing? Do climate sceptics have a point? What difference could the General Election make?

Mandy King, until recently Wandsworth’s Senior Policy Analyst (Sustainability), on the Council’s commitment -- and concrete actions -- to cut its own carbon emissions, and its newly adopted Environmental Policy.

Kate Lawrence, Wandsworth Friends of the Earth, on the local FoE’s suggestions for the Council to take faster and more ambitious action, including accepting responsibility, like an increasing number of Councils, to encourage the whole Wandsworth community – business, public authorities and householders and residents – to take serious action to reduce our impact on climate change.

An extended Q &A session will follow. Local Councillors are being invited, and we look forward to a lively discussion on the practical steps that can realistically be taken, particularly locally, to avert the dangerous consequences of global warming.

The meeting is open to all.

Refreshments available in coffee bar afterwards.

The GET SERIOUS campaign is calling on the Wandsworth Council to commit to cuts in carbon emissions across Wandsworth of 40% by 2020 (compared to 1995 levels).

We are gathering public support by collecting signed postcards from Wandsworth residents, and will be sending in postcards frpm all wards across the borough to their respective councillors.

Policy areas we are focusing on are:

- Homes: energy efficiency and micro-renewables
- Transport: increased cycling and walking across the borough
- Energy: community-based alternative energy schemes

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COMPLETE A 'GET SERIOUS' POSTCARD: please contact Kate Lawrence for details.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET MORE INVOLVED IN THE CAMPAIGN: please contact Kate Lawrence.

Thanks

Hi Kate

Very keen on getting my company to support this. Let me know how I can pick up a card. I live and work just off Trinity Road.

Thanks

Denny

Hi Kate, Rosemary.
I'd like to see how we at Project Dirt can help the FoE Renewable Energy Campaign. I've had a quick look at the spreadsheet too; I presume the groups are those who you want to sign up to the campaign? (or encourage to get renewable energy supply themselves?). We can help out facilitating local links / connections at the least, but hopefully be more actively involved? Kate - I hope to see you at Balham Green Drinks tonight; just look out for me and we'll talk some more.
Thanks, Nick
