The Theme of Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 (22nd Feb - 7th March) has been announced - The Big Swap! The idea is that people swap their usual something for the Fairtrade version e.g. cotton wool, bananas etc. The product focus of the Fortnight is tea (Strictly Come Fairtrade Tea Dancing anyone?!). We'll use a meeting soon to discuss what we are going to do locally during the fortnight.

I recently attended the Cadbury launch of their first product to go fairtrade - their flagship Dairy Milk. At the launch were Cadbury brand and marketing managers, as well as several representatives from the Ghanaian community and various FT folks including Harriet Lamb. Whatever feelings there are about large multinationals, there is no denying that this is going to make a massive impact on the people of Ghana as that it where Cadbury source all their beans. By having them certified Fairtrade the minimum Fairtrade standards will be applied to thousaends more farmers than before which can only be a good thing. Now we just need all those other cadbury products to go FT too....

I know relations between the council and WFC are not the greatest, but have you ever considered asking the council if you could use the Town Hall as a venue? Wandsworth Environment Forum meetings are held there, although admittedly we have a slightly different relationship with the council, but it could be worth a try if you haven't done so yet.

Also, many council estates have clubrooms that you might be able to use? I'm actually a resident on the Fitzhugh Grove estate, oppositie the County Arms, and we have a community clubroom. I've got no idea how you get around to booking it, but there is a link here to other such clubrooms, so you could check them out?

TT Wandsworth are also interested in finding venues, so if you get any other ideas/suggestions, do let us know. Or we could even potentially collaborate at some point...
