Making environmental change happen

A discussion forum to interact with Wandsworth Council - and let them know of any other ways in which they can help you achieve your environmental objectives.

Hi Mark - I'm excited about this fund, it sounds great! ;o) I'm gonna get my thinking cap on about a waste reduction project in my street. Is there a deadline for the applications?

I'd like the council (I live in the borough) to provide a very clear set of information on where our rubbish goes... what happens to it once we throw stuff away, what happens to our recycling? I'm sure we can get a one-sentence answer, but is it possible to have a tour, or for the council to make a film on what happens to our rubbish? I think that would be great! (then I can get my neighbours, some of whom are a bit skeptical about recycling, to join me in our quest towards zero waste)

Paddy,

The Council website has a good little trove of information for you (although you may have had to search a bit to find it!) - just go to this page:

http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/200084/recycling_rubbish_and_wast...

It has lots of useful links with information on where your recycling goes, including the below PDF showing what goes on at a Materials Recovery Facility (or MRF) you can even watch a video via the RWR website, also linked from the above page.

http://wrwa.gov.uk/Grosvenor_MRF/How_A_MRF_Sorts_Material.pdf shows what happens at a MRF

Since the new-look website was implemented some of the resources have become tucked away behind long link chains. I will be working to make it easier to navigate over the coming couple of months for you.

Keep asking questions - it helps us deliver what you need to you.
