Hi,

The first Southwark FoE meeting of 2010 will be taking place at the Herne Tavern on Tuesday 12th January at 7.00pm. The theme will be 'Growing your Own' and will be a chance to learn more about growing your own food - wherever you live.

Firstly, Friends of the Earth’s Jo Pickett-Baker will show us how to grow a wealth of edible plants in the low effort, high
yield system of forest gardening. Drawing on the example of Devon market gardener Martin Crawford, Jo’s talk includes clips from his latest DVD, as well as practical tips to get started.

Secondly, urban foodies Growing Southwark will share their projects and plans for our area. Set up last year, this dynamic new group has lots of ideas for new approaches to community food growing.

Lastly, Food Up Front will inspire us to become more self-sufficient in food produced from our unused outdoor spaces. Their members across South London are already growing food on spaces like windowsills and balconies and sharing this food locally. We’ll learn how this helps reduce our carbon footprint, and lessens our dependency on the big supermarkets.

Hope to see you there.
