Local Projects in Wandsworth

Green Champions Awards 2009

The deadline has now been reached. Thank you to all the entrants and nominees for this year's Green Champions Awards. Judging will be taking place over the coming week - we look forward to reading about all the people and projects who made an effort to be green this year.

The Green Champions competition is a way to get eco-conscious individuals, schools, groups and families recognised in Wandsworth. Winners will get to attend our local awards ceremony in February, and also go through to the wider Green Guardian Awards later on at the swanky Wyndham Grand. Finalists will be announced next month.

Local environmental projects going on in the borough:

  • Wandsworth's Freecycle group is committed to reducing waste by connecting locals who are throwing away goods with others who are seeking them.
  • Balham Composters aim to bring together local experience of composting.
  • Food up Front, last year's Green Champions award winner, aims to promote the use of front gardens and balconies to grow and share healthy, natural food.
  • The Wandle Trust is an ecological charity committed to cleaning up the River Wandle and improving the Wandle Valley.
  • Transition Town Tooting is a community-based group in the Tooting area working together to look Peak Oil and Climate Change squarely in the eye
The current issue (and back issues) of the Our Greener Borough News (OGB News) are now in the Box below

Got any tips for others in the borough? Do you have any environmental gripes? Not sure what the greenest option is? Why not join in the discussion below!
