Making environmental change happen

We started off in Nov 2008 by getting together like minded people, who wanted to make a difference to our lives and others. Next a plot came available from a local housing group, the area is between two blocks of masionettes, about 60 sq ft, the land previously was used as a community garden, but because of lack of volunteers ended. So we have taken it over. So far we have managed to source locally grown fruit trees, fruit bushes, because we wanted to get planting, have created raised beds out of the turf dug up and turned over as edging, this in time will break down, but as a temporary measure has allowed us to get planting, so far, strawberries, herbs, rhubarb, barley. Each bed will be a different tecnique, ie permaculture, no dig, organic, we will be researching about biodynamic planting (planting by the moon), we are trying to use recycled materials, ie railway sleepers, for the base of the shed, recycled tyres as planters, cardboard and newspaper as a mulch on the paths. Further projects for the site are a seating area, wildlife pond, storing and re-using rainwater of the shed roof.
