Community Gardening Volunteer - Stockwell, London

04 Jan, 2017 14:50
Do you love gardening and want to share your skills or learn new ones? Do you want to get involved with a great community charity and work with people of all ages and abilities?

Oasis Nature Garden is looking for regular volunteers to support our Saturday Community Days.

About Oasis Nature Garden:

A hidden gem in the heart of Stockwell, Oasis Nature Garden has been providing a natural ‘oasis’ to local residents since the 1970s. With a free after school club and holiday play scheme, Forest School sessions for schools and an under 5s club, plenty of children are able to enjoy a wide range of environmental arts and crafts activities, build dens, cook and grow fruits and vegetables, do woodwork, go on a bug safari, pond dip, take part in treasure hunts and camp fires.

Saturday Community Day:

Saturday is the one day we’re open to all - adults too. Anybody is welcome to picnic, pond dip, garden, cook, potter, read the paper or join in with workshops on woodwork, gardening, bush craft skills and more.

In the mornings we operate a gardening club teaching and enjoying organic gardening and gardening for wildlife. In the afternoons we offer free workshops focusing on a wide variety of skills.

The role:

We are looking for enthusiastic gardeners and food growers (or those keen to learn) to work with our experienced gardener to help plan, plant, maintain and harvest our veg patch and greenhouse and help and support other people of all ages and abilities to get involved too.

Food growing experience and experience of working with community groups both desirable but not essential.

We are a registered UAS (Unit Award Scheme) setting with exam board AQA, so whilst volunteering with us you can earn certificates in horticultural and wildlife related skills. Perfect for career development in the outdoor sector or for personal achievement.

We are open 10.30am-4pm every Saturday. Volunteers may choose to come just for Saturday mornings (focused on gardening) or stay all day. A regular commitment is needed for you to get the most out of this role. Please contact us to discuss your availability.

We are able to offer money towards expenses.

If appointed, applicants must be willing for Oasis Children’s Venture to process a DBS police check.
