Inspired by the example of recent interfaith walks in the locality, a group of Tooting residents working with Transition Town Tooting, are planning a similar interfaith walk on 31st January '09. Taking in a number of places of worship in Tooting, in addition to secular venues, the focus of this new walk will be a dialogue between each different faith and community group's view of its responsibilities towards the earth and its conservation. The walk will address concerns about climate change, oil prices and potential scarcity of the earth's resources in order to build up a common set of beliefs and values in this exceptional part of multi-faith London. Transition Town Tooting plans to collect pieces of scripture, poem or prose, in their original language and in translation, which speak of this matter in order to produce a handout to be given out around Tooting on the day. Tara Arts Centre's youth theatre group, Arts Beat, will devise a performance during the day - based on an ancient text from the Basra region about a council of animals taking ownership of the earth. The end result will be a powerful affirmation of shared values and writings around guardianship of the earth.
